June 12, 2020 &#8211; another week under restrictions, but apparently not enough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Hot and humid, although it should be less so than the rest of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was a bit cooler and drier than the earlier part of the week.\u00a0 It was still 90F in the shade in the late afternoon, because it&#8217;s summer in Houston after all.\u00a0 It was practically chilly getting in the pool after dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately it looks like Houston is about to validate a whole lot of stuff regarding wuflu.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/cdc-expects-200k-covid-19-deaths-october-dreaded-second-wave-arrives-live-updates\">Houston &#8220;On The Precipice Of Disaster&#8221; As Officials Weigh Reimposing Stay At Home Order Amid Spike In Cases<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been saying &#8216;wait and see&#8217; and &#8216;let the other guy see if the flame is still hot&#8217; and it looks like it is.\u00a0\u00a0 I&#8217;ll give it a little bit more time to develop further, but it seems to be right on schedule and just as predicted.\u00a0\u00a0 That isn&#8217;t good, as it means we&#8217;ll be seeing a bunch more cases and all over the place as the Memorial Day celebrants and then the protesters get sick, right on schedule.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not going to make much difference in my life or plans, but it&#8217;s gonna be a kick in the teeth for some people.\u00a0 I&#8217;m in this for the long haul.\u00a0 I hope you all are too.<\/p>\n<p>With that in mind, I was trying to buy another freezer today in an auction.\u00a0 I stopped bidding at 1.5x the freezer&#8217;s original price.\u00a0 Still half of new CURRENT price on amazon, but jeez.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t a good fit for the space I have, or as big as I wanted.\u00a0 There will be more as estates keep settling.\u00a0 I could just order one, and wait for fall delivery, but I want to start stocking it.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of coolers, my garage fridge wasn&#8217;t cold when I went out there last night.\u00a0 The freezer was still frozen, but the air passages feeding cold to the fridge compartment were blocked with ice.\u00a0\u00a0 I might have lost 20 pounds of chicken and 10 pounds of lamb.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The milk is cheap and I can get more, and the eggs will be fine.\u00a0 All the cheese will be ok.\u00a0 Losing the meat would suck.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be looking closely at that today, and possibly just cooking it.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t <em>warm<\/em>, and the tubes of biscuits hadn&#8217;t exploded, but it&#8217;s been warmer than 36F for at least a couple of days.\u00a0 I brought the meat into the house, and unblocked the passages.\u00a0 With as hot and humid as it&#8217;s been, I should have been paying more attention.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a known issue for me with this fridge, but I forgot.\u00a0 Little things, ignored, can have bigger consequences.\u00a0 Fortunately, we&#8217;re not on the ragged edge at the moment.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got a bunch of stuff to do today, after swim team.\u00a0 Swim team is looking like a bad idea in light of the rise in cases.\u00a0 I guess we&#8217;ll make a decision soon.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday number one daughter used cake mix, frosting mix, and other stuff from the preps and pantry to bake cupcakes for her friend&#8217;s birthday.\u00a0 Hooray baking club.\u00a0 She did it all herself, with me in the kitchen, but not helping.\u00a0 She even did a pastry bag with a decorator tip to apply the frosting.\u00a0 #proudpapa !\u00a0 They looked great, like store bought, and tasted delicious.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner was grilled lamb chops, leftover french fries, and broccoli- two stems from the garden and half a head from the store.\u00a0\u00a0 The garden broccoli tasted and looked good, but there wasn&#8217;t much.\u00a0 I cut it off the plants and expect they&#8217;ll grow more, like the last time I harvested.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pretty clear to me that bad times are here, and more are coming.<\/p>\n<p>Now more than ever, don&#8217;t let your guard down.\u00a0 Keep stacking.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Hot and humid, although it should be less so than the rest of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was a bit cooler and drier than the earlier part of the week.\u00a0 It was still 90F in the shade in the late afternoon, because it&#8217;s summer in Houston after all.\u00a0 It was practically chilly getting in the pool after dinner.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately it looks like Houston is about to validate a whole lot of stuff regarding wuflu.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2020\/06\/12\/fri-june-12-2020-another-week-under-restrictions-but-apparently-not-enough\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Fri.
