April 14, 2020 &#8211; shiny keys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Should be a nice day.\u00a0 [65F and sunny]<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was cool, bordering on chilly in the morning, rising to very nice in the afternoon and evening.\u00a0 Sunny, a bit gusty, but very nice day.<\/p>\n<p>So I worked outside.\u00a0 Re-potted two trees.\u00a0 Re-potted the last of the new pepper plants.\u00a0 Added soil to both of the big trash bag potato towers.\u00a0 They seem to be growing well.\u00a0 Watered the gardens and potted plants.\u00a0 Moved some grass from the kids&#8217; sandbox to bare spots in the front yard.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t know if that will &#8216;take&#8217; but willing to try for the little effort it took.\u00a0 Cleaned the pond filter box and changed the media.\u00a0 Pond looks nice with a bunch of lily pads and one (remaining) goldfish.\u00a0 The goldfish that went walkabout got his final resting place today too.\u00a0 He&#8217;d been in the fridge while I waited to see if the kids were going to need a full funeral for this one.\u00a0 Nope.\u00a0 So under the other fish&#8217;s marker he went.\u00a0 Moved a bunch of saplings in pots out of the raised bed to get ready for whatever I can still plant.\u00a0 I&#8217;m thinking root veg.\u00a0 Carrots did well, so did turnips, and they store well, and freaking squashes and beans do not.<\/p>\n<p>The cabbages are doing well.\u00a0 The broccoli is spindly and weak.\u00a0 The collards are still alive but not really growing.\u00a0 On the other hand, I&#8217;ve got budding fruit on the orange and grapefruit trees.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a first for the grapefruit since the year I planted it.\u00a0 The lemon and limes look ok too.\u00a0 The peach is finally almost leafed out, and the pecan tree is too.\u00a0 The blueberries continue to ripen, what few there are.\u00a0 Still, they are fun for the kids.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing in the window boxes from the radishes, turnips, and beets yet.\u00a0 Planted the onion starts and they look good, and planted some lettuce.\u00a0 Never had any luck with lettuce, so we&#8217;ll see how it does.\u00a0 Ate one golf ball sized tomato with dinner, one left in the fridge.\u00a0 That would be typically all I get before the heat stops tomato production.\u00a0 Harvested a couple more sweet peppers off the old plants.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve got material to build another 12 ft of window box for the fence, and some still needs new dirt and seeds.\u00a0 We&#8217;re supposed to have some clear days so I&#8217;ll be in the driveway working on that.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the fridge in the garage is emptying out.\u00a0 It has more empty shelves right now than in the last 10 years.\u00a0 I guess I should clean it&#8230;\u00a0 Freezer is still full, and the chest freezer too.\u00a0 Kitchen fridge is starting to empty, freezer is still full.\u00a0 Weird seeing the stocks dwindle way past the point I usually fill things back up.\u00a0 I haven&#8217;t had this few eggs on hand in years.\u00a0 I may move some other stuff to the fridge to extend shelf life.\u00a0 Or depending on conditions, I might make a store run.\u00a0 Sure don&#8217;t want to.<\/p>\n<p>Dinner was frozen fish fillets, buttered, seasoned and baked, with asparagus chopped and saute&#8217;d in butter with onions and a splash of soy sauce, canned corn, and warmed up hawaiian rolls.\u00a0\u00a0 Yum.\u00a0 I had my leftover personal pie under ice cream, and the kids ate Easter candy.<\/p>\n<p>I slept late and woke more rested than I have in many days.\u00a0 I hope that continues.<\/p>\n<p>Stay in, stay safe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>nick<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(oh, I noticed that my keyboard is both filthy, and I&#8217;ve worn the satin finish off the keys to the underlying shiny plastic.\u00a0 They&#8217;ll be even shinier when I clean the freaking thing.) <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Should be a nice day.\u00a0 [65F and sunny]<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday was cool, bordering on chilly in the morning, rising to very nice in the afternoon and evening.\u00a0 Sunny, a bit gusty, but very nice day.<\/p>\n<p>So I worked outside.\u00a0 Re-potted two trees.\u00a0 Re-potted the last of the new pepper plants.\u00a0 Added soil to both of the big trash bag potato towers.\u00a0 They seem to be growing well.\u00a0 Watered the gardens and potted plants.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ttgnet.com\/journal\/2020\/04\/14\/tues-april-14-2020-shiny-keys\/\">&nbsp;&raquo;&nbsp;Read more about: Tues.
