Sun. Mar. 11,2018 – Safely in Santa Fe

By on March 11th, 2018 in Uncategorized

Cool and partly cloudy today here, Well, COLD. Might get snow. Ski lesson in humiliy and aging later today. Might not survive that 🙂 Kids should enjoy it. Hope I don’t do a Kennedy….

Appetizers at the hotel bar were awesome last night. Looking forward to some good eats.

Albequergue airport is a bit tired but is getting renovated.

The drive was nice. Those are some black skies still, although my wife says not as black as 20 years ago.

BTW, @Lynn- finally finished the book you recco’d- The Girl With All The Gifts. What a creepshow. Good, but creepy. I think I’ll skip the movie.

And I’m skipping the news, so I hope the world hasn’t lost its mind last night.

Nick

Oh, and because of the time zone, and DST I think I’m back on my home time this am which is weird.

    Have fun in New Mexico.

Escaping from Oregon, on the way to Texas, we stopped and ate at Frontier in Albuquerque, across from University of New Mexico. Cool place. *Very* casual.

31º and sunny this morning. Clear skies and a light breeze make for a beautiful morning.

Eldest daughter and I went CC skiing yesterday. While she’s technically a better skier than I am, she doesn’t have the endurance that dear old Dad has. She was exhausted after an hour, with me doing the bushwhacking on the trails that hadn’t been groomed, and her setting the pace on the groomed trails. It was good to spend some time with her alone.

The other two were just happy to go to the park on the shores of the lake later in the afternoon. Doesn’t matter that there’s snow on the slide and on the swings. They were happy to get out and do something. It was a good day.

And today is at the grind for me. A contractor is scheduled to come in tomorrow afternoon and work on some reports that we don’t really need because the old system used to provide them. I have to have the work ready so we’re not spending $175/hour on a guy waiting for work. Minimize the waste.

Bright sunny and 42°F in the Tri-Cities WA right now.

Tri-Cities SWAT Team got the 2 wanted murderers after a 3 hour standoff. Unfortunately the skels were not hurt. Now we have to pay for their room, board, and legal defense. BTW, MS13.

A 197 pound cougar was caught near Spokane WA last Wednesday. A new record size for WA State. See story below.

    Add – The cougar story:

    SPOKANE, Wash.

Washington state wildlife biologists have caught and tagged a 197-pound (89-kilogram) cougar.

The Spokesman-Review reports that the biologists tagged the massive cat on Monday north of Chewelah.

State carnivore research scientist Brian Kertson called the cat a monster. He said it’s so muscular that the first tranquilizer dart he shot at it popped out as the cat flexed.

Kertson says it’s the largest cougar caught in Washington state — as far as he knows.

Bart George, a wildlife biologist for the Kalispel Tribe, said the cougar was eating mostly elk.

It was captured as part of a predator/prey study.

Kertson has captured 20 cougars and collared 16 since December 2016.

On average, tom cougars weigh between 150 and 155 pounds.

Visiting relatives in Oklahoma. We had planned a joint birthday party for myself and MIL who both have birthdays this month. Early afternoon MIL turned ashen and very dizzy while sitting still. We rushed her to hospital. Son’s wife is a RN who took charge. Her BP was 219/95 but EKG didn’t show abnormality. After a CAT scan and preliminary blood work the ER doctor diagnosed vertigo and prescribed anti nauesa and Gatorade. DIL is suspicious that they did minimum to get her out of hospital. She says modern hospital is to stabilize the patient then discharge. We have a DR visit planned for tomorrow to get this sorted. Not how we had hoped to send a vacation.

@h combs, Sorry to hear that, hope she recovers. At least youwere there to help.

Spent the afternoon learning to ski. NOW I know what it feels like to be in a cement mixer filled with bowling balls. I only fell twiceand the worst was on ice in a parking area but man I’m beat up. We’ll see what tomorrow feels like, but I’m betting on bad!

    Early to bed tonight.

Dee-lightful. Dee-lovely. Dee-licious. I left Kalifornia years ago, for just those reasons. The penultimate reason was the SFPD taxing me for a burglar alarm on my business. Can you say oxymoron?

@H. Combs – that Gatorade is probably very important. Ol’ folks are notorious for not getting enough fluids. She was probably dehydrated and her blood was probably low in potassium. The doctor should have done a full blood panel.

Hopefully the doctor appointment today will be more conclusive.

Prayers and best hopes for all.

Even though the son’s Wife is an RN, (voice of experience here, and not just my Wife) RNs, no matter how good and experienced, often panic when it is a family member they are treating and they tend to make poor decisions.

Dad’s Rx for every day for everybody 50 and over: at least one 20 fl. oz. of Gatorade and a minimum 100 fl. oz. of water.

Don’t forget your dogs and cats either, they need to stay hydrated. You should have several small bottles of unflavored Pedialyte in your Pet First Aid Kid.
