09:21 – We did a lot of work on science kits yesterday. More today.

We’re down to four containers of ninhyrdrin crystals for forensic kits, so I ordered more ninhydrin late last week. It’s supposed to arrive today, so I’ll have Barbara labeling and filling ninhydrin containers. Same thing on ascorbic acid (vitamin C) tablets, which are included in all our kits. We’re down to five containers of those in stock, so I just ordered 5,000 more 500 mg tablets. We normally maintain at least 2,000 of these in stock, either refrigerated in their original bottles or repackaged for kits. Yet another example of a science kit inventory item that’s also a useful prepping item. I also need to make up another batch of Kastle-Meyer Reagent, which involves refluxing (simmering) a caustic brew to convert the bright magenta phenolphthalein to colorless phenolphthalin.

Barbara and I are re-watching Heartland. We just started season six the other night. There was a story thread about fostering children and the rules for that in Alberta. I decided to check the rules in North Carolina, not that we’re considering fostering/adopting. About the only requirement in North Carolina is that an adoptive parent must be at least 18 years old and, bizarrely, that a fostering parent must be at least 21. So, they’ll give you a kid if you’re at least 18, but they’ll lend you one only if you’re at least 21. Hmmm.

While I was on the North Carolina fostering/adopting website, I also looked at their gallery. I expected it to be almost exclusively black and Hispanic kids, but there were a fair number of white kids as well. Some of those were no doubt orphaned, but I suspect a lot of them came out of nightmarishly abusive homes. The young kids at least have a chance of being adopted. The ones I really feel sorry for are those in their mid-teens, like this one, who have little chance of finding a new family.

And I’m still wondering what emergency the German and Czech governments are telling citizens to prepare for. I doubt they seriously believe that Putin is about to invade, and the only other thing I can think of is that they’re expecting a widespread muslim uprising.

And I’m still wondering what emergency the German and Czech governments are telling citizens to prepare for. I doubt they seriously believe that Putin is about to invade, and the only other thing I can think of is that they’re expecting a widespread muslim uprising.

Given the current German government, I think it’s far more likely that they suspect a “right wing” attack on the poor defenseless Muslims.

Apropos of the German and Czech gummints telling their citizens to hunker down in the face of the invasions and uprisings that THEY brought into being, and several of the posts yesterday…

If he’s right, things will start getting sporty here next year. And he didn’t go into a possible Trump victory but I figure the same results, roughly, with widespread urban unrest and violent riots. So it looks like either way you cut it, either the BLM/SJW/prog mobs revolt or WE do. Or maybe BOTH, and then it WILL be a second civil war. With the State on the side of the former, natch.

Widespread power outages this winter, maybe? It wouldn’t surprise me with closing the nukes and doubling down on renewables. Rolling blackouts have got to suck in a cold wet German winter.

One of my college friends & his wife have adopted two kids, both somewhat older and refugees from drug addled homes. The poor kid in the below story (also a good candidate for the ‘They’re Not Like Us Of The Day’ award) will probably wind up in the state system.

This guy seems to think that just thinking and believing will bring “heaven” into existence here. I tend to think it will be a bit more problematic and gritty than that.

A little more accurate and prescriptive:

Does anyone here actually believe the regime and Cloud People will come to their senses and do the right thing?

  8. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

What is this alt-right shit? Just because progs lump everyone they don’t like into a group they define doesn’t mean that’s a real group in any meaningful sense, or that any of us have to accept their label, let alone their definition.

Yes, I’ll make common cause with conservatives and even the religious right, neither of which I particularly like, but I have absolutely nothing in common with white nationalists, skinheads, the KKK, and so on. Does that mean I’m not a part of the alt-right?

  9. nick says:

I have several friends who have adopted. One adopted two boys who are both damaged by their mother’s drug use. They are not normal, and are a danger to themselves and others.

One adopted a boy in his mid-teens. The kid had stunted emotional development, and is filled with anger despite years in a loving home. Normal teen angst cranked to 20 by years of abuse and neglect.

One friend adopted from eastern europe, and had to send the girl to live with a single family member in a remote area after she tried to harm his other child, and burn the home down. “If she succeeds, at least I’ll be the only one harmed” said the volunteer.

    Not a single good outcome.

This is different from the past. Many of the children in my social circle were adopted when I was young, and they all integrated fully into their families.

My grandmother fostered dozens of kids and adopted one as a teen. Although he certainly has issues, he’s a productive and loved family man with kids of his own.

Adoption is a noble thing, and something that needs doing, but there are serious and longterm risks to you and your family that need to be considered in light of the new reality.

Wow, that alt right guy sure projects a lot. Who’s this “we”? Gotta mouse in your pocket?

Everything after “Racial problems will not go away, Leftists will not stop until they go Full Communist, and the media cabal running our nations intends to harm us” is projection and crap.

The z man has some points, particularly this:

The reason to contemplate this is that at some point, people get tired of being pushed around by lunatics. Much of Donald Trump’s appeal is due to his dismissal of the PC piety that has come to dominate politics. A vote for Trump is really just a vote for the big old middle finger to the people in charge. The reason the alt-right was so happy to have Clinton engage them was so they could tell her and the rest of the Cloud People to go fuck themselves. There’s a lot of pent up “fuck you” out there after decades of preaching and scolding from our betters.

but I’ve never heard anyone compare the US to Iran. Seriously?

And ” They may not yet be sending trouble makers to labor camps, but they are willing to ruin careers. Has anyone seen Milo Yiannopoulos or Robert Stacey McCain on twitter recently?” FUCK TWITTER. Twitter isn’t important. Anyone who thinks it is is deluded. Has anyone seen Andrew Breitbart? Twitter your @ss off, hashtag till your fingers bleed, it makes no difference. Report. Change the discussion, change the world.

  11. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I actually posted a solution to all of this a decade or more ago. All we need is a yearly open season on politicians. Hunt them down where they live, kill them, and mount their heads over our fireplaces.

  12. Dave Hardy says:

“…there are serious and longterm risks to you and your family that need to be considered in light of the new reality.”

And the new reality is that we now have several generations of damaged and stunted children in the West, which is, of course, the fault of climate global change warming and the Twelve Years of Reagan-Bush and racism. We have two young boys in our own family or extended family who are slightly off-center and stayed behind a year in school immediately, thanks in both cases to faulty genes in one case and a very damaged and now absent father in the other. And this was/is within a social group that has had the material and educational advantages.

“Does that mean I’m not a part of the alt-right?”

Don’t worry about it; they’re mostly about a lotta chatter and not much of doing anything concrete; their fifteen minutes of fame was when Cankles took off on them the other day, BFD. She’s set up a straw man again, like she did with the “vast rightwing conspiracy” years ago; hell, if it worked once, why not try it again? And most Dems and libtards will swallow it whole and the “alt-right” will become their new whipping boy.

It was slick of her and her operators to lump in the phony conservatives and libertarians with the skinheads, Nazis and KKK, though, wasn’t it? So the former will probably cower in terror that they’re being associated with these others.

Yeah, don’t worry; you’ll get your fair share of abuse, like the song says.

  13. nick says:

Regarding “alt right.” It needs a name. I’ve got nothing in common with the jackals in congress that claim the mantle of “right.”

I don’t pay any attention to the words coming out of lying hillarity’s lie hole, so I don’t know if she’s trying to tar the whole “we’re the new right end of the spectrum, since those old entitled fuckers in power clearly aren’t any different from the left”.

Don’t care. Their words have no power over me. Racist. Bigot. Dread white male. Unemployed. SO WHAT? The words that matter are Daddy, Sweetheart, Son.

Like popeye, I am what I am.

Lately, there are more and more people like me who are starting to stand up and look around, and get angry. The little yap dog that’s been bugging us is wearing out our patience and as soon as it gets bold enough and tries to take a bite, it’s gonna get kicked across the room. Oh, some people will say “Why did you have to kick that poor defenseless creature? It wasn’t hurting anyone…” but someone else will say “About F’ing time, I don’t know how you put up with that for so long.”

  14. Dave says:

I actually posted a solution to all of this a decade or more ago. All we need is a yearly open season on politicians. Hunt them down where they live, kill them, and mount their heads over our fireplaces.

With all due respect, while the politicians are a problem, the real problem is with the idiots who elect the politician. My mother in law is an insulin-dependent type two diabetic who keeps complaining about the company that makes the insulin which keeps her alive. The company has been improving their insulin products over time, and those improvements cost money. Furthermore she has raised two daughters who are determined not to be as miserable as she is in a quarter of a century, and their plan is to do the same thing their mother did for the last twenty five years and achieve different results.

  15. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I just think it’s truly bizarre that anyone could label me a conservative or right-wing, given that I’m a radical atheist who supports abortion on demand, gay rights, legalizing prostitution, legalizing all drugs, etc. The only thing my positions on these issues have in common is that they’re all in support of individual rights.

The real enemy here isn’t “liberals” (I’m a classical liberal as well as a classical conservative, both in many respects). The enemy is progs, pure and simple. They’re totalitarians masquerading as caring people. Heaven save us from do-gooders.

  16. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

And the other thing I don’t understand is why everyone is making such a big deal about the heroin/fentanyl/carfentanyl “epidemic”. Junkies are apparently dropping like flies. So what? A dead junkie is a good junkie. Obviously, it’s a pain in the butt for the sanitation workers who have to pick up dead junkies in the street and haul them to the garbage dump, but otherwise this “epidemic” seems like a Very Good Thing to me.

  17. nick says:

“why everyone is making such a big deal about the heroin/fentanyl/carfentanyl “epidemic””

wondered that myself. On an individual level, it’s a tragedy, but one of their own choice. On a societal level, it looks like a self correcting problem to me.

(from some other article, the widespread availability and use of Narcan seems to be encouraging people to take risks wrt strength and dosage, that they previously wouldn’t have considered.)

  19. Dave Hardy says:

“…the widespread availability and use of Narcan seems to be encouraging people to take risks wrt strength and dosage, that they previously wouldn’t have considered.)”

Front page story in the local nooz rag’s weekend edition, their biggest of the week; the local junkie recovery people are giving away Narcan kits with the full support and encouragement of the police chief here. “It could be your son or daughter.”

Sounds kinda like that yappy little dawg again….

“… ever notice that every single picture of trump in the news has his mouth open, usually his face distorted?”

True, but Drudge and the other “opposing” sites usually manage to run pics of Cankles in the worst possible light and circumstances, which in her case is most of the time anyway.

  21. brad says:

    “What is this alt-right shit?”

Let me answer from an alt-right perspective: The alt-right is what the conservatives ought to be. It’s what the Tea Party should have been. It’s people saying “no” to multi-culti, and “yes” to their own culture.

When they say “celebrate white, European culture”, it gets called out as racist, but it’s not. They have no problem with people supporting other cultures, but they are of European descent, and see no reason they shouldn’t celebrate their own culture.

Every movement has its fruitcakes; maybe the KKK and the white supremicists will call themselves “alt-right”. But the bloggers I’ve read, and the articles on alt-right sites like unz.com don’t strike me as racist at all.

I don’t agree with everything, but I do find a lot to like in their positions. In particular, the refusal to accept being called racist, just because they support their own (white, European) culture – which underlies pretty much all of Western civilization.

  22. Dave Hardy says:

“Let me answer from an alt-right perspective…”

There’s that, and then there’s Cankles and the MSM playing one of their usual tricks and DEFINING the “alt-right” the way they want it. So now, if you “identify” as “alt-right,” you’re not actually supporting white European culture, which is a huge no-no, you’re a racist and xenophobe and nativist and probably a closet KKK member and you signify all that is wrong with this country and all that President Hillary and her heroic women warriors will make right. Cue up crowds cheering.

well said. We’ve got a hispanic radio station here that has the motto “La Raza” or the race. It has political significance too because of the “La Raza” Movement.

Everyone is apparently fine with this.

I ask them to imagine their response to a [pretend] country station, WKKK “We put the Kick in Sh!t Kicker” with the same slogan….

Or, where is the “White Congressional Caucus”? [and for anyone who says they don’t need one, because it’s the whole congress, please, get back on your meds.]

Or any of a whole roll call of racially segregationalist organizations that exist ONLY in their darker skinned varieties.

Been going on a real long time in this country; ZooMass, the giant state university down there had an “Africa House,” exclusively for black students, forty years ago. When I worked at a university in Woostah, MA, the eight or nine black female students clung to each other and traveled everywhere on campus TOGETHER.

Now picture “Anglo-Saxon House” or eight or nine white male students clinging to each other everywhere on a campus and sitting at their own table in the dining hall, where no one else can sit and the administration joyfully supports this.

“The White House on Monday defended President Obama’s decision to enter into the Paris climate accord without Senate ratification but stopped short of confirming a Chinese report that he will do so this week during his trip to China.”

“White House senior adviser Brian Deese said the president has the legal authority to ratify the accord without the two-thirds Senate vote required for treaties. He said the pact negotiated by 195 countries in December is merely an “executive agreement.””

No President can perpetually obligate the USA without Senate approval.

If Trump is elected, he will use this agreement for shelf liners in the White House pantry.

  32. MrAtoz says:

No President can perpetually obligate the USA without Senate approval.

Just another of Emperor Obola’s decrees. When Queen Canklesore The First is crowned, this “executive agreement” will be honored so the final destruction of coal, gas and oil energy sources is complete. Long live solar and wind! Except for the Cloud People. They will all have a Mr. Fusion in their basement.

  33. Dave Hardy says:

See how slick they are at manipulating language? The former “executive ORDER” becomes an “executive AGREEMENT,” i.e., an agreement of some sort between him and whatever other rulers and Cloud People; the Gonegress, let alone the Dirt People, need not be consulted.

We need to be at least as slick at screwing with the English language and the basic noob text is the late Eric Blair’s “Politics and the English Language.” Highly recommended and still relevant after all these decades.

Really? Read her profile again. Now invert each of those positive phrases.

This poor kid is messed up.

Poor reading comprehension, but somehow an “excellent student” who had to take summer classes she fell so far behind. Now wants to get out of high school early.

Gets overwhelmed and runs away physically, to do things by herself.

You’ll be paying for her college and weekly therapy, where she’s “making progress” and she’s attached to one particular therapist, lucky you. Several times they mention her working with her stressors and managing them and her past losses and trauma. Of which there were many, and awful ones, and they made her do bad behaviors, which we hope you’ll understand and forgive.

She’s a black hole of emotional need, and an emotional minefield, who talks about herself and her trouble constantly. She will need constant high level attention from at least one [!!]motherly ‘mom’ as a role model.

Oh, and her past exposure to crime or the criminal justice system inspired her
to maybe pursue the only thing she recognizes as a career.

Yes, she needs a home and a family. But anyone who can read between the lines knows it’s gonna be a BIG job, and you’ve missed all the time as a ‘kid’.

  37. Dave Hardy says:

And naturally any state-sponsored public description is gonna be as absolutely positive as they can make it, without appearing to gloss over the tough-sell points.

We’ve now got at least a couple of generations of children who’ve grown up in poor to terrible environments, and our observation of government intervention, treatment and education does not give one much confidence, to say the least. It’s bad enough now; in a true SHTF situation, many or most won’t last very long and many of the others will become feral, “Lord of the Flies” feral, only not in isolation.

  38. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

To be expected, Miles_Teg. You think Hillary Bitch Clinton is a hot-hot-hottie, so there’s obviously something wrong with your brain. Most likely someone took a melon baller to it some years ago and no one noticed because so long as you can say “throw another shrimp on the barbie, mate” and make a joke about New Zealanders and sheep, there’s no way to differentiate a melon-balled Australian from any other Australian. No, wait, “melon balled” sounds like something else, something to do with, uh, fruitiality? The combining form for fruit is “carp-“, but “carposexuality” sounds like it should have something to do with fish. Anyway, Miles_Teg, don’t worry about it. People with half a brain can live rich, fulfilling lives as roadside litter cleaners or politicians. Just avoid having sex with fish, melons, dead goats, or Hillary Bitch Clinton.

When the big dairies produce too much milk (always) it gets turned into powdered milk and sold to the government. Sits in warehouses running up storage fees until it expires then gets sold cheap for ………. cattle feed. Ever wonder why a gallon of milk is less than $3.00?

Of course I was applying this “doubling down” thing to the Left in general, but hey, it works for the gummint wonks, too.

Ah! The Libturdian Utopia! They will make us perfect using every last dollar in *our* bank accounts, not theirs. I want a Unicorn that defecates cheesburgers! I don’t like Skittles.

Reminds me of Elysium with the Cloud People living in immortal luxury on the space station, and us Dirt People on Earth working our asses off to die poor. At least Libturdian Matt Damon dies at the end.

Chock-full of very interesting info, links and commentary, per usual, here is Uncle Remus’s latest:

The Faye article about possible major SHTF scenarios is interesting but his year-predictions seem quite a bit off, and he doesn’t even mention North America.

“I want a Unicorn that defecates cheesburgers! I don’t like Skittles.”

Rainbow cheeseburgers! With tangerine trees and marmalade skies. Hey, Skittles are really good with some purple drank, but be careful cutting through dark alleys in the wrong ‘hood.

Both of my sisters adopted a daughter. Beautiful Niece #1 was abandoned in the hospital the day she was born, and adopted at about five months old. Beautiful Niece #4 was found abandoned in a public park (I don’t know at exactly what age) in a foreign country. It’s possible she was abandoned because she had a heart defect, but she was adopted at five years old. Both are happy, healthy, well adjusted young women. Neither of them lacked for hugs & kisses from a mom and a dad, one set of doting grandparents, uncles who adored them, and plenty of books to read as children.

There’s an article on Drudge about BJ Klinton recommending Syrian refugees be given jobs in Detroit to rebuild the city (quoted in Feb). lol! Detroit is already a shithole. I guess Sharia law would fix all that.

It’s not like Dearborn is already full of Muslims.

‘We will not, at any time, debate the science of climate change’

Three professors co-teaching an online course called “Medical Humanities in the Digital Age” at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs recently told their students via email that man-made climate change is not open for debate, and those who think otherwise have no place in their course.

“The point of departure for this course is based on the scientific premise that human induced climate change is valid and occurring. We will not, at any time, debate the science of climate change, nor will the ‘other side’ of the climate change debate be taught or discussed in this course,” states the email, a copy of which was provided to The College Fix by a student in the course.

Signed by the course’s professors Rebecca Laroche, Wendy Haggren and Eileen Skahill, it was sent after several students expressed concern for their success in the course after watching the first online lecture about the impacts of climate change.

  68. Dave Hardy says:

Oh goody, a “science” course taught by a witch’s cauldron trio of nasty, repressive fembats. How typical, and been going on since OFD was in grad skool. They’ve migrated from the humanities and social “sciences” and now occupy all the academic territory.

  69. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I don’t get it. Of the three, there’s one English “professor”, one Sociology “professor”, and one actual professor (actually, an instructor), Haggren, who seems to be a biochemist.

What the hell does any of that have to do with climate change?

  70. Dave Hardy says:

Let me “educate” you on this chit, as I saw it first-hand a quarter-century ago at four different Northeast colleges. The fembats, mostly, have been “colonizing” other academic departments, so this is very typical; two or three of them will gang up and “team-teach” some bullshit course or other. Previously it would be the usual suspect stuff like “queer theory,” “gender studies,” “French feminist theory,” from the humanities and social “sciences,” but they have been moving into the hard sciences as well. This way the various cadres and collectives can spread their neo-Marxist venom throughout academia and indoctrinate entire student bodies. They are supported in this enterprise by the usual gut-less and fellow-traveling administrations.

When I was there, “conservatives,” i.e., any faculty or administrators to the right of the Castro Brothers, were being slowly purged, and the elimination of tenure accelerated that process, along with the spread of “gypsy” and part-time and “emeritus” professors who bounce from college to college, sometimes commuting many hundreds of miles for peanut pay and zero bennies. Now on most college campuses you would be hard-pressed to find any but a tiny handful of “conservative” professors, who are loathed and despised by their “colleagues.” They’re the last remaining tenured holdouts, grudgingly supported by their unions. Once they’re gone, it will just be a vast academic network of neo-Marxist collectives and indoctrination, extending down through the public school systems.

The science, per se, doesn’t matter; what matters is that students learn and take to heart what the Accepted Truth is.

  71. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

    Double, double,

  72. Dave Hardy says:

    Fillet of a fenny snake,
    In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
    Adder’s fork, and blind-worm’s sting,
    Lizard’s leg, and owlet’s wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

  73. Dave says:

When I was there, “conservatives,” i.e., any faculty or administrators to the right of the Castro Brothers, were being slowly purged, and the elimination of tenure accelerated that process, along with the spread of “gypsy” and part-time and “emeritus” professors who bounce from college to college, sometimes commuting many hundreds of miles for peanut pay and zero bennies.

By Castro brothers, do you mean Fidel and Raul or Julian and Joaquin?

  74. Dave Hardy says:

The former, unaccountably still alive and well; I consider it more evidence for the Devil.

  75. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Dave, why aren’t you out buying guns and ammo? It may come to nothing, but then again it may not.

  76. Dave Hardy says:

Yo, which “Dave” R U talking to?

If U mean me, I was pretty well stocked in the former but then we had a tsnunami off the lake a while back and they all got swept away. More ammo is enroute, however, as we “speak.” I hope there are no more big storms like that.

  77. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Sorry, I was addressing the other Dave.

  78. Dave Hardy says:

Then I would second the suggestion, to wit:

For near-term scenarios of varying threat-levels: an EDC handgun of sufficient caliber, w/training, and if possible, matched for the Spousal Unit. A handy-dandy shotgun for home defense, again, w/training for both Units.

Get that done, and move on to the mid-term selection of potential threats, when feasible.

  79. SteveF says:

What the hell does any of that have to do with climate change?

You asking that question is nothing more than you manspreading your white, phallocentric so-called “logic” where it’s neither wanted nor needed. Check your privilege, you bastard!

  80. Dave Hardy says:

Doncha love the made-up words and phrases that the SJWs and progs come around with periodically? Besides “manspreading,” which I just GOTTA do, ’cause I have very long legs and it’s just tough shit for anyone in the vicinity, there is “mansplaining,” when you, the privileged patriarchal prick that you are, condescend to ‘splain something or other to an otherwise smarter and obviously superior female, which, incidentally, is any and all of them.

    But “phallocentric” is so…so 1980s.

  81. SteveF says:

Here ya go, OFD: like any good virus, microaggressions has mutated and spread.
