By on September 2nd, 2015 in personal, science kits

07:54 – With Barbara retiring at the end of the month, I need to get us covered under Obamacare by then. We need to make a lot of decisions about what level of coverage we want, trading off monthly premium costs against deductibles and out-of-pocket amounts as well as issues like which doctors and hospitals are part of the network on different plans. I’ve already look at small-business Obamacare plans, which look like non-starters based on monthly costs alone. So we’ll start looking at individual plans in more detail. Then we’ll need to do it all over again when I become eligible for Medicare in three years and Barbara in five.

Work on science kits continues. We’re low-stock on all of the kits now, which we’ll have to address this weekend by building more.

12:26 – Well, isn’t this interesting? A call from a terrorist for open season on killing white people and cops, presumably of any skin color. Something tells me that this asshole is not alone. If he or any of his like-minded terrorist buddies show up around here, they’re likely to get a surprise. H/T to Nick.

Can you opt to not take out health insurance? For the obamacare premiums you’ve been quoting, you could offer an MD in a well-equipped local multi-partner practice a nice retainer, and get at least 1980s level health care directly. If your luck runs out and you have a heart attack or a stroke, call an ambulance anyway and take your chances with public medicine and an emergency room… if you get something terminal but slow, take a hike in the woods with a revolver and one bullet.

  2. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

No, we can’t do without. If something expensive happens to me, I don’t want Barbara losing the house and all our other assets.

  3. dkreck says:

Something expensive. That little five hour trip I took to the ER last month came to a mere $13k.

Of course most will be settled by the insurance at pennies on the dollar.

  4. Dave says:

“Of course most will be settled by the insurance at pennies on the dollar.”

I know someone who unwisely went without insurance because insurance “cost too much.” The hospital volunteered to settle for 50 cents on the dollar. The unwise person in question thought they were doing them a favor. I would have held out for 25 cents on the dollar and wonder if I overpaid.

Anyone heard of this tosser? He’s wrong on so many levels, but the idea of Bill, Hillary and Chelsea no longer existing has its attractions…

  6. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Just one of his statements tells me he’s full of crap. There is no way that the thermal pulse from a single nuke could cause all of Arkansas to be consumed by firestorms. Such a device would not be measured in megatons yield, nor even gigatons. It’d have to be (I’d guess, without running the numbers) that it’d have to be in the teraton class. Call it on the close order of a million megatons. See the effects calculator in Glasstones’s The Effects of Nuclear Weapons. Think a Lucifer’s Hammer class asteroid impact. And even that doesn’t take into account the horizon issue.

  7. nick says:

“talking about our delusions over nuclear weapons ”

Just this sentence is enough to reveal editorial bias.

Don’t know the guy, wouldn’t surprise me if there were accidents. There seems to be a protocol for dealing with them. Given the complexity of the systems, there have to be failures sometimes.

I’m not worried. Lots more pressing concerns. Like the current race war.

Had my first class in the “Citizen’s Police Academy” program last night. Turns out it is a widespread and very popular thing. (It’s designed to give you a feel for and better understanding of how your local police dept works. It is NOT a training program for auxiliaries or citizens on patrol.)

I encourage all of you to see if there is a program in your locale.

I’ve already learned some things, esp. regarding attitudes, and look forward to learning more.

The Titan II missile had a W53 warhead with a maximum yield of 9 megaton. It was one of our largest bombs, but even then it would hardly destroy a state, it could ruin a city if detonated properly.

However there was no chance of it exploding. it was not armed as the missile was undergoing maintenance. A wrench was not properly tethered and when dropped punctured the fuel tank of the missile. Shortly after that the leaking fuel exploded which pushed the warhead out of the silo landing a 100 yards away.

There are a number of recorded incidents with nuclear weapons. Hardly surprising considering how long we have been using them. We were required to report any incident where a weapon was in the area. I was involved with one incident when a landing gear collapsed on a B52G that had weapons loaded. There was no danger of a detonation, but it was an incident. As far as I know there was never any danger of a accidental detonation in any of them.

  10. Miles_Teg says:

The warhead atop a Titan II ran to about 9 MT. I would want to be in a basement at least 30 km away, where I’d probably be okay. He says that’s the largest US warhead ever built. That’s crap – the largest was 25 MT.

The safety mechamisms on the warhead worked, so it didn’t go off. Pity, it might have taken Bill, Hillary and Chelsea with it…

  11. DadCooks says:

Someone was really hard up: http://nypost.com/2015/09/02/rachel-dolezal-says-shes-pregnant/

All this talk regarding insurance, medical care, doctors, and Big Pharma, with my multiple inside sources I can confidently declare that all youz guys discussions are way too optimistic. Obola-no-care is one big slow acting poison pill that may be so absolutely entrenched/metastasized that it cannot be removed without killing the patient.

  12. OFD says:

“Obola-no-care is one big slow acting poison pill that may be so absolutely entrenched/metastasized that it cannot be removed without killing the patient.”

There it is. As designed and implemented. With malice aforethought.

Yo, foolz, I just watched that whole King Noble vid clip; he’s a pretty funny guy. Buffaloes getting picked off one by one by lions. He forgets that even with that, the buffaloes still vastly outnumber the lions; he also forgets that the buffaloes, in this case, surly and hairy white ones, are armed to the teeth and have a long history of pretty savage violence when sufficiently pissed off.

If he gets his wish, and it really is open season, and white folks and cops start getting ambushed regularly like that deputy in Houston, he will rue the day. The resulting firestorm will be a wonder to behold. Have any responsible black spokespersons disavowed this guy yet? Or are we just all gonna ignore it and blow it off? Trump got any comments? Or is he still focused on the Hispanic tsunami? How about Cankles? Anything to say? After meeting with the Black Lives Matter harpies? Geez, even lib Dem Mrs. OFD is pissed off now. Way to go, King Noble, my man, way to go.

  13. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I would imagine that nearly all American blacks are horrified by this asshole’s statements. They must realize what will happen if a lot of young black men start ambushing whites and cops at random.

If this gains momentum, white people and cops will be able to shoot any black person and claim self defense because they believed their lives were in danger, and who could dispute that? Let’s hope everyone ignores this asshole. It won’t take much more of this shit to cause wholesale tragedies.

  14. OFD says:

Agreed. We have long had our own assholes making statements like this, and it serves no good purpose except for those who want to see a race war and a Hobbesian ‘state of nature’ here.

    More stuff on this situation:

  15. Lynn says:

He says that’s the largest US warhead ever built. That’s crap – the largest was 25 MT.

    The B41, according to Wikipedia:

The Tsar Bomba, built by the Soviet Union, was reputedly 50 MT.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Bomba

“All buildings in the village of Severny (both wooden and brick), located 55 kilometres (34 mi) from ground zero within the Sukhoy Nos test range, were destroyed.”

Arkansas is considerably bigger than 68 miles by 68 miles.

  16. Lynn says:

No, we can’t do without. If something expensive happens to me, I don’t want Barbara losing the house and all our other assets.

In Texas, you cannot lose your home to anybody for expenses other than mortgage debt, property taxes, or home owner’s association fees.

However, I would not run without medical insurance if I had any assets at all. The bills for the heart attack that I had in 2009 totaled $95K. BCBS paid $9K and I paid $2K if I remember correctly. The rest was written off.

“President Obama – who graduated Columbia University with a degree in political science – became an environmental and ecological expert Monday night in time to decry America’s contributions to global warming and the alleged melting of Arctic ice caps at this year’s GLACIER Conference, predicting a dire future for humanity.”

We are all going to die!

    This man is a fool.

  18. Al says:

The problem isn’t with what King Noble is saying. It’s that he get’s away with it with no consequences. If any of us put that type of video up on YouTube, the authorities would be knocking on our door within hours and we would have to hire a gaggle of lawyers to spring us from jail because we engaged in ‘hate’ speech. The Government has clearly chosen sides in our country and unfortunately they’ve chosen to side with the under-class instead of the middle-class.

  19. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Well, I guess the middle class are just going to have to take care of things ourselves. This might get interesting. But as I keep saying, I’m too old for this shit.

  20. MrAtoz says:

Is there a difference between White People and Crackers? Another highly educated Black Person. Yet, Obola will say *I’m* the racist, just because I’m White. King Noble probably filmed on his Obola-Phone. lol

  21. OFD says:

“It’s that he get’s away with it with no consequences. If any of us put that type of video up on YouTube…”

    Here’s one example:

“Hi guys; hey, guess what? It’s now open season on blacks in this country. Dylan Roof, you know, that kid in the church? That was righteous, man. That was a signal. To all of us white folks. White folks are tired of listening to hip-hop and blacks complaining about life here. White folks are tired of blacks shooting white people and white police officers. It’s open season on blacks now. Black people better watch out. They might think they have the government on their side, but they could be walking along, feeling like they’re all set and protected, and there could be a white man around the next corner, just waiting for them. Because it’s open season on blacks now. You know, when rats or cockroaches are invading your house and causing a commotion and scaring your family, what do you do? You take them out, of course. Open season on them, and open season on black people.”

Now post that up on the Toob, with some white dude talking to the camera lens like it’s at knee level, military brush cut, blue eyes of course, earnest, low-key. See how long that stays up. Or how long White Boy stays out of jail and lawsuits.

“This might get interesting. But as I keep saying, I’m too old for this shit.”

Unless they’re piling on up the interstate here, we probably don’t gotta worry about King Noble and his krew anytime soon. We are mainly concerned with our own denizens in the ‘hood here, and I mean right now, not when TSHTF. More nooz clips from the local rags yesterday about gun incidents, drug busts, local yokels doing 111 on the interstate with a suspended license, drug rehab stuff, increased B&E’s in one of the small burgs to our southwest, heroin-related, etc., etc.

But y’all in the southern Megalopolis states better keep yer eyes and ears open and stay near Condition Orange a lot of the time when you’re in certain areas.

  22. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I think that asshole confuses water buffalo with cape buffalo, which Cleveland Amory also once famously did. I hope that asshole has a run-in with a cape buffalo.

  23. OFD says:

Ho, ho, ho; indeed. But rest assured he’ll never bring his narrow ass to where the cape buffaloes hang out. Plus, the peeps over there have not much use for Murkan black folks, apparently. They wonder why there’s so much complaining and bitching and rioting and suchlike when their Murkan cousins got it made in the shade. King Noble would find out what Eldridge Cleaver and others found out; they ain’t welcome. And if he was damn fool enough to go on some kind of safari and have that confusion about the buffaloes, or for that matter, lions, he’d be in world of hurt.

More likely his run-in will be with some big old white guy with a gun and it won’t end well for young Mr. Noble. Or some big old white guy without a gun but who will take Mr. Noble’s gun and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

  24. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

I actually saw a Cape Buffalo during a short trip to Rhodesia in the late 70’s. The guy driving the vehicle said they had the nastiest tempers of any animal. According to him, they often charged vehicles, not because they confused them with another male but because they just didn’t like people. And he said they were very, very smart.

  25. OFD says:

“…during a short trip to Rhodesia in the late 70’s.”

Whoopsie, another micro-aggression, when you know full well it’s Zimbabwe, not “Rhodesia.”

I got off active duty in ’75 and during that time I was being actively recruited for a $500/month gig with the Rhodesian armed forces, counter-terror ops on the borders, and probably helping to lead mostly black units in the bush. I went for domestic law enforcement instead, but some days I wonder how I might have ended up.

“… they had the nastiest tempers of any animal.”

Wife’s late husband (d. 1992) did a Peace Corps gig in Nigeria during that same time and discovered that mambas were very nasty, hostile and aggressive; they’d chase your ass, and you’d better be PDQ, too.

  27. OFD says:

Referring to Mr. DadCooks’s earlier comment on ObolaCARE:

“Obamacare will almost certainly mark the apex of the entitlements stupidity cycle in the US, preceding fiscal collapse. When it comes, large swaths of the US population will be unable to provide for themselves and will clamor in vain for assistance from insolvent local, state, and federal governments. What will these unfortunates do? Quiet resignation and acceptance of their fate are not the odds on favorite, rather, we’re looking at unprecedented civil disorder, lawlessness, and widespread chaos.”

The ham operators on the Alaska Morning net have been commenting on the trip and disruption.

Some “respect the office, no matter who holds it”

some laughing at the entourage, not enough beds in the whole place, staffers sleeping on the floor in the fire station, re: internet, entire capacity into wherever they are was less than POTUS staff needed for themselves.

That’s just what I caught walking past the scanner. Too uninterested to listen to chatter about his O-liness.

    nick

  29. OFD says:

He has a huge entourage, probably larger than the usual hip-hop superstar’s. A caravan of limos and SUVs and security drones all over the place, including actual drones overhead. The most powerful person in the solar system, so far as we know. And a Bolshevik hadji idiot to boot.

Anyone who doesn’t know that Shrub is WAY smarter than this bozo is beyond hope by now. People forget, and I’m no Shrub fan by any stretch, that he made it through jet fighter school and a Hah-vud MBA; they might have pencil-whipped him through the latter, being from the clan and all, but they only do the pencil-whip thing in fighter jock school for womyn. Hell, even Larry Klinton is smarter, a Rhodes Scholar, for petesakes. He married way down when he married Cankles, on several levels; I still can’t figure that out.

  30. MrAtoz says:

He married way down when he married Cankles, on several levels; I still can’t figure that out.

Maybe Cankles had stuff on him way back then. And is the real mastermind of the death and destruction surrounding BJ and Klan.

  31. Dave says:

The guy in the video isn’t very bright. If he winds up dead because a white guy kills him and claims self defense, all the white guy’s attorney will have to do is play that video for the jury and rest his case.

I’m more concerned about the guys who agree with him and are smart enough not to post a video on YouBoob like he did.

  32. Jack Smith says:

There’s a new legal specialty that’s grown up in recent years – “making your client judgement proof.” In other words, set up his/her financial affairs such that all significant assets are shielded from personal claims.

At first, I thought this was a joke, but it’s not.

  33. Robert Bruce Thompson says:

Like their white counterparts, these violent black separatists are not overly-endowed with brains.

  34. OFD says:

True, dat; the white supremacist and phony “nationalist” types are just a short step away from Aryan Nation in the prison gulag and biker gangs. They have a handful of “leaders” who’ve read some books and who can spout glib interpretations thusly; a lot seem to be into various genres of metal cranked up full blast, an interesting parallel with the blasting hip-hop. You get a bunch of testosterone-stuffed young males with zero prospects in the larger society, listening to loud-ass, shitty jungle beats, with a hated outsider target and Bob’s yer uncle. It’s the contemporary version of the Nuremberg rallies, cue up Leni Riefenstahl’s “Triumph des Willens” and away we go!

Another interesting parallel is both groups’ virulent anti-Semitism.

Leni, by the way, lived to 101 and eventually got done in by cancer.

Naw that was before; I woulda been supervisin’ the brothers on they own guns. I be sportin’ a pearl-handled Colt .45. I have had, more or less continuously since then, the “Be A Man Among Men” Rhodesian Army tee-shirts, though.
